Cordless vs. Corded: What "No Cord" Actually Buys You

If you're shopping for a robot pool cleaner, you'll hit this fork right away: corded or cordless. The Dolphin Eon 100 runs on a battery. No cord runs across your deck or yard. That one change affects setup, storage, and how much you think about the robot at all. Here's what it actually means.
1 The Cord You Deal With Every Week
A corded robot cleaner plugs into a power supply box that sits near the pool, on a properly grounded outlet. The cable runs from that box to the robot in the water. Left alone, it twists and kinks. Most manufacturers recommend disconnecting the cable weekly, stretching it out, and coiling it back up to keep it working right. The cable can also catch on ladders, steps, or patio furniture as the robot moves. Come fall, that same cable needs to be rolled up and stored without damage.
2 What "No Cord" Actually Means
The Eon 100 runs on a built-in lithium-ion battery. Charge it at any wall outlet — a full charge takes up to 4.5 hours. Drop it in the pool, press the button, and walk away. No cable to run out, coil up, or trip over. Set it to UltraRun mode in the Maytronics One app, and it runs a series of shorter cleaning cycles over 1 to 2 weeks on a single charge, so you're not thinking about it daily.
Charging tip: Plug the Eon 100 in right after you pull it out. It'll be ready for the next cycle, and staying topped off is better for the battery over time.
3 Where Cordless Wins
If your pool is far from an outlet, or your deck doesn't have a good spot for a power supply box, cordless solves that problem outright. Small or oddly shaped yards benefit too — there's no cable to snag on tight corners or landscaping. And the Eon 100's homing wall feature means it parks itself at the wall you choose at the end of each cycle, so you're not chasing it around the pool to pull it out.
Heads up: Keep the charger in a shaded, dry spot between 43°F and 95°F. Heat is hard on any lithium-ion battery. We'll cover the right storage charge level for Minnesota winters in a later article.
4 Where Corded Still Holds Its Own
Corded isn't the wrong choice. A plugged-in robot runs as long as the cycle needs, with no charge to plan around. There's no battery to manage or eventually replace. And if your pool already sits near a proper outlet, the cord is barely a factor. It also tends to come in at a lower price point.
5 If Something Breaks, We Fix It
Corded or cordless, robots need a repair now and then. Here's what that costs, and how it depends on where you bought yours.
