Cover Care
Yeah! The pool is open! What is the best way to store your winterizing stuff, like the safety cover, plugs and the like?
The most significant threat to your winter mesh or bag cover over the summer is mildew. Let’s face it, very few of us are going to take the time to clean our winter cover and let it thoroughly dry before folding it up and stowing it for the summer. But storing a wet and dirty cover is a problem because the minimal airflow and stuffy conditions of a shed or garage combined with all that moisture create a very hospitable environment for mold and mildew growth.
Thankfully, BioGuard has come to the rescue with their stow-away product. Stow-Away is a cleaner and deodorizer for swimming pool covers and allows the mesh-cover to be folded and stowed away while still wet; significantly reducing the time needed to complete your opening and at the same time protecting your cover from mold and mildew.
Another good use for this product is at the end of the season to protect your safety cover. Using Stow-Away to clean your safety cover before rolling it away for the season helps you to know that you have done all you can to protect your cover as best you can.It is also a good idea to give your other pool-side accessories, like your brush, leaf net and pole a shot of stow-away before being stored for the winter. That way in the spring they will be fresh and ready for use.
Another very similar product is Natural Chemistry’s Spray-On Cleaner. It has the advantage of coming with a hose attachment and spray nozzle.
We recommend you store all of your plugs, blowout tubes and other closing supplies in a bucket someplace dry so that they will be easy to find in the fall.
